ASONP Landscape Photo Workshop
Rasmusson-award winning photographer Carl Johnson will be holding a landscape photography workshop. The workshop will combine classroom and field sessions to introduce beginning and intermediate photographers to the equipment, composition, and beauty of landscape photography. Cost is $70 for ASONP members / $80 for non-members.

Alaska Photographic Center invites you to enter your photography and participate in Rarefied Light 2010, Alaska’s largest juried photography exhibition.

2010 Rarefied Light Juror - Keith Carter
Keith Carter is a fine art photographer and teacher living in Beaumont, Texas. In addition to being the Recipient of the 2009 Texas Medal of Arts and called a “Poet of the Ordinary” by the Los Angeles Times, Keith Carter’s haunt-ing, enigmatic photographs have been shown in over one hundred solo exhibitions in thirteen countries. Eleven books of his work have been published including a mid-career survey, Keith Carter Photographs/Twenty-Five Years. A documentary film: A Certain Alchemy, available in DVD, was released by Anthropy Arts, NY in 2006. www.keithcarterphotographs.com.

Eligibility
The competition is open to all photographers residing in Alaska. All photographically derived works are eligible, either two dimensional prints or three dimensional objects and sculpture incorporating a photographic process. Only original works not previously exhibited or scheduled for exhibition in a statewide juried exhibition in Alaska are eligible for submission. Recent work preferred.

Digital Submissions & Judging
Rarefied Light judging is completed in a two-step process by our juror with an initial judging from all digital entries then a final judging of selected exhibition-ready artwork in Anchorage.
All entries must be submitted as digital files for initial judging.
Artists work selected from the initial judging will be notified and will need to submit exhibition ready art for final judging.

Fees
APC Members: First entry $15, $5 per each additional entry. Non-Members: First entry $20, $10 each additional entry.
There is no limit to the number of entries that may be submitted. Entry fee must accompany each submission. Make checks payable to Alaska Photographic Center. All fees are nonrefundable.
APC Membership (optional) $25 for one-year membership $15 for students or senior citizens (65 and older)

Awards
There will be a Best of Show selection with a $300 Award provided by APC. Additionally, the juror will select non- monetary Honorable Mention Awards.

Initial submission - Digital artwork checklist
The initial entry artwork is a CD/DVD of digital images labeled with the photographer’s name and number of images on the disk. Use one disk for all entries.
Submit each entry as JPEG file sized to 1024 pixels on the longest side at 72 ppi resolution.
Name each image file with your last name_first initial_ identifying number (e.g. smith_j_01.jpg).

Mail CD/DVD along with completed entry forms and payment to:

Deadline for initial submission entries is postmarked on or before June 1, 2010.

Final submission - Exhibition-ready artwork
Artwork that is selected from the digital submissions for the final judging in Anchorage must be exhibition ready.
Art should be framed and matted with white or natural white museum board and in a simple, neutral-colored metal or wood frame. Framing must cover all glass edges and be wired, ready to hang. Glass or plastic may be used to cover artwork with any single dimension no larger than 24” including framing. Artwork with any dimension larger than 24” must use plastic such as plexiglass or lexan.

Artwork called for final judging will be received on Saturday, July 24 only, from 10:00AM until 5:00PM at the Blaines Art Supply, 2803 Spenard Rd Anchorage, AK 99503. Mailed or couriered pieces will be accepted until 5:00PM, July 24. Anyone wishing to hand-deliver works prior to July 24 should contact APC: akphotoctr@gmail.com.

Deadline for submitting selected exhibition-ready artwork is July 24, 2010.

Exhibition
Rarefied Light has exhibitions in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Kenai and Cordova. Selected art is scheduled to be returned to the artist in May, 2011 and cannot be withdrawn prior to the end of the tour. Due to shipping constraints and exhibition space limitations, accepted works larger than 40” X 32” will not travel outside of Anchorage.

Conditions and Sales
Sales will be encouraged. Each venue takes their standard gallery commission. Images may be used by APC for purposes of documentation, promotion, in publicity, APC publications and exhibitions. All copyrights remain the photographers.
