Microscopic Haematology 3e is an atlas of Haematology designed for use in a diagnostic setting. The third edition provides over 400 full colour haematological slides of exceptional quality. Arranged in a logical order, it commences with the red cell series describing normoblastic erythropoiesis and then goes on to describe abnormal erythropoiesis and all the red cell disorders associated with anaemia. Each type of anaemia is described with a minimal amount of text and accompanied by coloured haematological slides depicting the red cell changes associated with the particular disorder. The images have been magnified x1000 and are of a very high quality. The platelet section follows on and adheres to the same format. There is a section on haematology relating to paediatrics which describes red cell, white cell and platelet disorders occurring in cord blood, the neonate and childhood. The last section is on Blood Parasites and describes the four species of human malaria. A description of the characteristic features of each species as it occurs in the red cell is accompanied by images clearly depicting the various stages of maturation of each species of malaria. . Paediatrics section - which describes red cell, white cell and platelet disorders occurring in cord blood, the neonate and childhood. . Over 400 high quality images . 30 detailed case studies online . Updated in line with the current WHO classification . Online image bank Evolve Student . This is an admirably concise and clear guide to fundamental concepts in physiology relevant to clinical practice. It covers all the body systems in an accessible style of presentation. Bulleted checklists and boxed information provide an easy overview and summary of the essentials. By concentrating on the core knowledge of physiology, it will serve as a useful revision aid for all doctors striving to achieve postgraduate qualification, and for anyone needing to refresh their knowledge base in the key elements of clinical physiology. The author's own experience as an examiner at all levels has been distilled here for the benefit of postgraduate trainees and medical and nursing students.

Before new interventions can be used in disease control programmes, it is essential that they are carefully evaluated in "field trials", which may be complex and expensive undertakings. Descriptions of the detailed procedures and methods used in trials that have been conducted in the past have generally not been published. As a consequence, those planning such trials have few guidelines available and little access to previously accumulated knowledge. In this book the practical issues of trial design and conduct are discussed fully and in sufficient detail for the text to be used as a "toolbox" by field investigators. The toolbox has now been extensively tested through use of the first two editions and this third edition is a comprehensive revision, incorporating the many developments that have taken place with respect to trials since 1996 and involving more than 30 contributors. Most of the chapters have been extensively revised and 7 new chapters have been added.

An Introduction to Medical Laboratory Technology, Second Edition provides information pertinent to medical laboratory technology. This book discusses the importance of laboratory technology in hospital practice. Organized into seven sections encompassing 33 chapters, this edition begins with an overview of the role of the medical technologist in the diagnosis of disease by the use of certain accepted laboratory methods. This text then explains the general types of glassware that is widely used in medical laboratories. Other chapters consider the main methods of estimating the sugar content of body fluids, methods in feces and gastric analysis, and microscopical and chemical examination of urine. This book discusses as well the microscopic examination of bacteria, which necessitates making smears and hanging-drop preparations on microscope slides. The final chapter deals with some aspects of elementary physiology. This book is a valuable resource for students and junior technicians, as well as for qualified technologists and medical students.

This new edition has been fully revised to provide microbiologists with the latest information on fungal infections, covering the entire spectrum of different types of infection, and therapeutic modalities. Beginning with a general overview explaining morphology, taxonomy, and diagnosis, the following sections cover the different categories of fungal infection including superficial cutaneous mycoses, subcutaneous mycoses, systemic mycoses and opportunistic mycoses. A complete section is dedicated to pseudofungal infections. The highly illustrated text concludes with a detailed appendices section and each chapter features key references for further reading.
